Wrap only 2 3 of the threads leave the front 1 3 bare.
Remove the drain plug or rod.
Usually this plug is plastic.
Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the drain plug at the bottom of the water heater.
On suburban brand water heaters the plug is also an anodized rod.
